If you’re one of those looking for a hotel close to amenities and Kelowna’s night life, Lake Okanagan Resort is not the hotel for you. If, on the other hand you’re looking for a quiet getaway and can tolerate a 25 minute drive into city center, you may want to read further. Lake Okanagan Resort is ranked among the finest by RCI (Resort Condominiums International) out of 4,500 RCI-affiliated resorts worldwide.  This old, stately 3.5 star place was noted by an independent reviewer to look as though it had been redone.  Another reviewer enjoyed the peace, quiet and beautiful views.

For things to do, there is a 9-hole executive golf course for scratch players which is free; and larger, award winning golf courses in the outside surrounding area.  This resort also has pools, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, a marina with power boats, ski-tow boats, wave runners, wakeboards, water-skis, paddle boats, canoes and kayaks. Water-skiing and wakeboard lessons are available.  Lake Okanagan boatingAnother option is hiking trails on this 300 acre resort with great views of the valley and lake; mountain biking on varied terrain for new and avid riders, nature hikes and birding, and horseback riding along the trails.

Indoors there is Beyond Wrapture Day Spa with a varied massages including the Beyond Bliss Aroma Wrap (using essences and oils);  Exfoliating Sea Salt & Loofah Glow Massage (in combination with aromatherapy);  the Signature Aromatherapy Massage (with effleurage massage movements with the body’s charkas and acupressure points); the Hot Stone Reflexology (to restore balance, improve circulation and relieve stress);  Lake Okanagan horsethe Sacred Art Stone massage (using heat and pressure from stones); the Chun-tzu Yin Yang Tandem Massage (which follows the Confucian ideal of a perfect human being); the Red or White Wine Vinotherapy Massage (using anti aging grape seed oil, shea butter and your choice of red or white wine with vinotherapy lotion); and the Sports Massage to revitalize muscles using the Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage Techniques.   There is also an Asian Bath and Infrared Sauna.

Dining at the Chateau Dining Room got high marks from an independent reviewer, and another reviewer noted that they enjoyed an excellent pizza in the lounge.

Although there are great indoor options here, those who want to see the city will appreciate that this resort is just 20 minutes from the shops, restaurants and city lights of Kelowna.

Guest Rooms:

Condos and chalets are lined along the shore of the lake.  All have kitchens, balconies, and beautiful views of the lake, golf course, or forest parkland.  Up to four people can fit in a suite.

The Three-Bedroom Condos and Chalets feature two bedrooms with king or queen beds, and one bedroom with two twin beds; a kitchen and a dining area with two full bathrooms, a large living room with a queen sofa bed and fireplace.  Up to eight people can fit here.Lake Okanagan 3-br chalet

The Romantic Jacuzzi suites for two have an upper floor with a valley and lake view, a separate bedroom with king bed, and a two-person Jacuzzi tub, living room, entertainment centre, kitchenette, and dining area.

The Deluxe studio suite has a private treed setting, queen bed, double sofa bed, kitchenette and dining area good for four.

This resort has no elevator, but the rooms have gotten good reviews and the service is also well lauded.

Function Rooms:

Weddings, business conferences, and corporate retreats are entertained here with 2,600 square feet of naturally lit meeting space with no distractions, and outdoor lunches.  Groups from 16-120 people can be entertained with full service including airport transfers, audiovisual equipment, secretarial services to spousal programs, facilitators and entertainment.

recreation-inn-lobbyThis is a family owned and operated hotel with lovely, award-winning landscaped gardens and grounds.  The hotel is pet friendly and the ambiance is suitable for families.  Independent reviews note the staff offers great service.

Amenities include a landscaped garden, a seasonal outdoor pool, spa tub and sauna.  Services include an ice machine and a pop machine.  There are also guest laundry facilities including an iron and ironing board.  Added complimentary perks are self parking and wireless internet access including a high-speed internet computer in the lobby, photocopier and fax services.

The Recreation Inn and Suites is well situated in downtown Kelowna.  It stands beside the Parkinson Recreational Centre, and is just minutes away from many playgrounds, golf courses (like Mission Creek Greenway and Scandia Golf and Games), Gyro Beach, ski trails, walking and hiking paths, tennis courts and bike routes.  This hotel is six blocks from the Waterfront, City Park and Lake Okanagan; and three blocks from a shopping mall.  Other nearby attractions are the Dragon Boat Festivarecreation Inn & Suites Pooll, Laser Paint Ball, and KLO Petting Zoo.  Kelowna International Airport is 20 kilometers away.

Guest rooms:

There are 50 guestrooms at the Recreation Inn and Suites.  They include amenities such as cable television, balconies, microwave ovens and refrigerators.  All rooms and suites also have air conditioning, a coffee maker, wireless and dial-up internet connections, wake-up calls, alarm clocks, free local calls, hair dryers and complimentary tea and coffee.

The Standard Room I has a queen bed, duvet, and ensuite bathroom.  The Standard Room II can accommodate up to five people comfortably with a queen bed in one room and a queen bed and single bed in the other.  The Standard Kitchenette has the added convenience of kitchen amenities and two queen beds.  The Studio has a full kitchen, one queen bed, and a pull-out couch.  The One Bedroom Suite is perfect for families or groups, as they include one queen bed in the bedroom, one queen bed and 1 pull-out couch in the living room, and a full-size kitchen.

Okanagan gardenAlthough this is just a two-star hotel, it has a three and a half star rating from Canada Select.  Situated on 5.5 acres of land with two gorgeous courtyards, the Okanagan Seasons Resort is pet friendly and smoke free.  It has recreation facilities such as a hot tub, sauna, fitness centre, and indoor and outdoor pools.  There is also a children’s playground, an arcade/game room; and courtyards useful for family barbeques, volleyball games, basketball or practicing on the putting green.

Service facilities include a coin-operated laundry on site, airport transportation (surcharge), business centre, free local calls, assistance making dinner reservations, booking tours or planning a meeting, air-conditioned public areas, a microwave in the lobby, a television in the lobby, free wireless internet in the entire resort, a guest computer in the guest lounge with coffee and tea, free parking at your door (for some rooms), a front desk safe-deposit box, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, free wireless high speed internet access in public areas and handicapped parking.okanagan fitness center

For dining, the Okanagan Seasons Resort has coffee in the lobby, a grassy courtyard with a covered patio and barbecue, and barbecue also at the pool deck.  There is also an in-site bar/lounge.

This resort is also near Costco, Wal-Mart and Home Depot; and just a five minute drive from Orchard Park Shopping Centre, the largest mall in the area.  There are wonderful museums within walking distance as well as walking trails such as those in Mission Park.  The resort helps with rentals of bicycles, scooters, canoes and kayaks.  Also, Okanagan Seasons Resort is two kilometers from Scandia Golf & Games.

Guest Rooms:

This one-floor resort has 69 rooms which, depending on the room, can house up to 2-8 people with parking right at the doorstep.  All rooms have AM/FM clock radios, a coffeemaker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, complimentary wireless internet access, fridges, televisions, bathrooms, sitting areas, and sliding doors to patios.

jr_corp_queenThe newly renovated Sandman Hotel & Suites in Kelowna, BC ranks Four Green Keys in the Eco-Rating HAC Program.  A new addition is its Executive Tower which adds some 100 additional rooms – these can be requested at time of check-in and are typically nicer.  Independent customer reviews say the Sandman suits young singles, couples, families, older travelers, pet owners and tourists.  The pool is a big hit and a room at pool level is ideal if you value fun over silence.  Overall, Sandman Hotel & Suites is rated good value for money.  Amenities include high speed Internet access and a business centre.pool

There are five restaurants:  Denny’s 24 hour Restaurant with room service, Bar One Urban Lounge, Moxie’s Classic Grill for casual dining, CHOP-Steak, Fish, Bar and the Shark Club – Sports, Bar & Grill.

The pHresh Spa + Wellness Club offers body massages, spa treatments and an infra-red sauna.  Complete Spa packages include the gym, spa, eucalyptus steam rooms, garden patio access, pool deck, and a gourmet spa lunch.

For African-inspired services there is the Sandman’s Chakari Spa for manicures to massages.  Included are the pool, gym, steam room, whirlpool and infrared sauna, plus customized SPAFARI packages and bridal packages.

This hotel is just a five minute drive from the lake, and it fronts the Orchid Park Mall.  It is also just minutes away from ski resorts and golf courses, and golf and outdoor recreation packages are available on request.

There are 221 comfortable guest rooms and suites in this hotel, including the newly built Executive Tower.  Kitchenettes are available in some suites, and all have complimentary in-room coffee, tea, hairdryers, iron and ironing boards.  Customers felt the room was very good value for its price, with everything that they needed including a coffeemaker and fridge.

The Ramada stands out for its excellent service and facilities including the swimming pool, whirl pool and fitness center.  This is a 100% Non-Smoking hotel.

The restaurants in the Ramada Hotel and Conference Centre are:  The Mickie’s Pub & Patio which a reviewer said has “one of the best steak sandwiches ever”.  There is also a lunch buffet.  The Pub has three big screens and 15 TVs, N.T.N. trivia, QB1, a pool table and individual speakers at each table to enjoy sporting events.  In the summer, Mickie’s has the biggest patio in Kelowna.  The hotel’s second restaurant is Perkin’s Restaurant and Bakery which is open 24 hours and offers affordable breakfast, lunch and dinners as well as an in-house bakery with pies and desserts.

Situated in the heart of Kelowna on Harvey Ave, Ramada is directly across the street from a large shopping mall, and near Kelowna’s only drive-through Wine and Beer Store with a wide variety of beverages including high quality products from the Okanagan Valley.Ramadapool

Amenities include a fully equipped gym, a Wellness Spa, and a one-acre grass courtyard with gardens and a putting green.  There is a new indoor swimming pool, two outdoor hot tubs and a steam room.  The lobby is welcoming, and there is a business centre.  Front desk services are 24-hours.  Other services are laundry/valet, guest coin laundry, ATM, and benefits such as stay-free for children under 17, free continental breakfast, free parking, RV or truck parking, and wheelchair accessible rooms.

Dining options include:  The Atrium with a complimentary Deluxe Continental Breakfast Buffet; Slims Restaurant for breakfast lunch or dinner; 97 Street Pub for its 50’s style atmosphere and 16 TV’s, Big Screen, Plasmas and Pool Table.

The Super 8 amenities include a hot tub, heated outdoor pool, babysitting, room service, gym, business center, complimentary wireless high-speed internet access, complimentary continental breakfasts, and parking large enough for family recreational vehicles and group buses.  Pets are allowed.

The hotel has a restaurant on the premises, and reviewers have noted that the free continental breakfast is fresh and there are more choices than usual.

This is a good place to stay for sports lovers.  For skiing, Big White and Silver Star are just an hour away.  For golf, there are golf courses just five minutes off such as Mission Creek Golf Club, Quail Ridge Golf, and Gallaghers and Harvest Golf.  Super 8 is also five minutes away from a major shopping area, the Orchard Park Shopping Center.  It is four kilometers away from Kelowna, BC. super 8 pool

This two-storey inn has 61 guestrooms and can be accessed through open-air walkways.  All the rooms are air conditioned.  Amenities include hair dryers, coffeemakers and free wireless internet access.  There is also Cable TV, free HBO and free local calls.

Rooms come with either two double beds or one queen bed.  Independent reviewers said the beds are comfortable and the bedding, though minimal, was sufficient.  The bathrooms are very clean.

Dilworth Inn

The Dilworth Inn is a two star budget hotel that offers a homey atmosphere (it is family-owned) with three floors, all with rooms including the ground floor.  There are also large public decks, an indoor pool and hot-tub and sauna on the ground floor. Dilworth lobby There is no elevator so those with mobility issues are advised to request a ground floor room.  Other amenities are an exercise room, free lobby PC and high speed internet, and laundry facilities.

The comfort, cleanliness, service and care are the hotel’s strengths and an independent reviewer noted that “Overall, we were happy with the hotel and enjoyed our stay there.”

For dining, there is free morning coffee and tea, and barbeque is served on the sundeck.  The Dilworth is excellently situated, and White Spot restaurant next door serves tasty breakfasts.  Across the street there is Orchard Park Mall.  If you are interested in exploring the city, this is where to stay.  The Dilworth Inn is just seven minutes by car from the city center, and five kilometers from the waterfront.
